POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Director will lead our donor strategies, Sharathon fundraisers, and the team that supports the growth of donor retention and cultivation. The key responsibilities are leading strategies and touchpoints to grow our donor base; leading the production and execution of all aspects of fundraising initiatives and fundraising campaigns and events; to identifying, growing, and strengthening relationships with donors through developing and implementing cultivation/engagement initiatives to increase donor retention and increase revenue. The Development Director will lead the development coordinator and contractors in the creation of proposals, reports, and strategy documents as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The Development Director is a storyteller who strategically tells the story of our ministry, the story of the lives impacted, and the story of why our donors support, showing the value of ILM and our ministry’s mission as we reach people for Christ through the power of story.  
  • Strategic development and execution of vision and strategy to execute successful fundraising events and campaigns. Includes corporate-wide oversight and direction of tactical elements, on-air messaging, staffing, fundraising event planning, support, and logistical coordination in traditional and digital channels. Light travel for nationwide fundraising events is probable. 
  • Analyzes existing processes and policies for best practices, donor-centered services, cost efficiency, and effectiveness making recommendations for improvements as determined. 
  • Champions current giving strategies, manages current giving program; oversees and implements changes and enhancements that directly support ministry donor objectives and synergize across channels and platforms. 
  • Leads strategy with consultants/agencies on the execution of development-related donor communication, direct mail, on-air, and digital platforms.  
  • Leads the production and execution of strategic fundraising campaigns; develops campaign strategy and ensures all elements of the strategy are executed on time, on brand, and with excellence. 
  • Manages and creates the recognition, appreciation strategy, and reporting for donors. The strategy includes but is not limited to the development and creation of proposals, reports, traditional and digital communication pieces, welcome series, thank you letters, and appreciation touch points. 
  • Leads and manages the Development team in the creation of goals, projects, and performance measurements to ensure consistent communication and strategies align with ILM brand, mission, vision, and values with an emphasis on storytelling and providing emotional connections with our donors and audience. 
  • Support ILM fundraising endeavors, events, and touchpoints for donor acquisition, cultivation, and prospecting.  
  • Management of donor data, reporting, analyzing data, and creating strategies for improvement. Working across departments to support and strategize on best practices to grow donor affinity. 
  • Oversees and decides all development-related scope and strategies including existing processes and policies for best practices, donor communication services, cost efficiency, and effectiveness; makes recommendations for improvements. 
  • Strategic development of lapsed, new, and reoccurring donor retention programs which includes external marketing and internal team plans and workflows to execute strategies.  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Non-profit Donor Management or related Communications or Leadership field 
  • 7 years relevant experience in donor development and/or fundraising for a non-profit organization that resulted in positive outcomes 
  • Demonstrated experience managing and editing effective donor communications and related deliverables, holding to the highest ethical standards of fundraising while reinforcing ILM’s brands.  
  • 5 years of demonstrated history in essential development skills: annual fund, direct mail, and analyzing donor database reports. 
  • Experience with leading fundraising programs in a Christian ministry and/or broadcast environment.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:   

  • Understanding of and demonstrated success in current giving/fundraising campaigns. 
  • Background in radio fundraising and on-air direction and messaging preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to write, edit and proof relational and donor-related documents. 
  • Strong people skills 
  • Knowledge of Salesforce platform and database 
  • PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and cloud-based programs. 
  • Proficient in internet research, tools, and data analysis 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7 years of relevant professional fundraising/development experience  
  • Strong team management and leadership skills in the radio industry 
  • Proven history of on-air talent development and messaging for fundraising 
  • Proven fundraising strategies for media and broadcast ministries. 
  • Master’s degree in a related field
